About Kristin Colton

Therapist | CADC III | Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

Hello, I'm Kristin

Finding the right therapist is a personal decision. You want someone who understands what you're going through, but also someone who can offer perspective, compassion, and practical tools for creating change.

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and relational. I believe that meaningful change begins with feeling understood and developing a deeper awareness of the patterns that shape our thoughts, emotions, relationships, and choices.

I work with individuals, couples, and families navigating relationship challenges, life transitions, emotional difficulties, recovery, and experiences that may continue to affect the way they connect with themselves and others.

A Career Rooted in Healing and Recovery

My professional journey began with a deep interest in helping people find their way through difficult seasons of life, particularly the challenges of addiction and recovery.

I have nearly three decades of experience working in the field of addiction counseling and hold a CADC III credential. That experience has given me a firsthand understanding of the complexity of recovery and the ways substance use can affect individuals, couples, families, and relationships.

Over time, my work expanded to include broader mental health and relationship concerns. I completed my Master's degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and continued developing my clinical skills through work with individuals, couples, and families.

Becoming a therapist allowed me to bring together the experience I've gained throughout my career with a deeper understanding of relationships, attachment, trauma, emotional patterns, and personal growth.

What You Can Expect

Therapy with me is collaborative. I don't believe you should feel like you're being talked at or simply given a list of things to do.

Instead, we'll work together to understand what's happening, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop practical ways to respond differently.

I strive to create a therapeutic environment where you can be honest about what's really happening without feeling judged or shamed. At the same time, I believe therapy can be both compassionate and appropriately challenging when growth requires us to look at something differently.

My goal is to help you develop greater self-awareness, healthier patterns, and a stronger sense of connection—to yourself and to the people who matter most.

Areas of Experience

My clinical work includes:

  • Couples and relationship concerns

  • Individual therapy

  • Anxiety and emotional challenges

  • Life transitions and personal growth

  • Recovery and addiction-related concerns

  • Relationship patterns and attachment

  • Trauma and difficult life experiences

  • Communication and conflict

  • EMDR and trauma-informed approaches

A Mind-Body Perspective

My professional background also includes training and experience in mindfulness, breathwork, and mind-body practices.

These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the connection between our emotional experiences, our physical bodies, and the ways we respond to stress.

When appropriate for the client and the therapeutic work, I may incorporate mindfulness, grounding, breath awareness, and other experiential practices as part of a broader therapeutic approach.

My Philosophy

I believe that healing isn't about becoming someone completely different. It's about developing a deeper understanding of who you are, recognizing the patterns that may no longer serve you, and learning new ways of responding.

Whether you're working through relationship difficulties, navigating a major transition, addressing long-standing emotional patterns, or seeking a deeper sense of connection and purpose, therapy can provide a space to explore what is possible.

If you're considering therapy, I invite you to reach out and see whether we might be a good fit.
